Moving Your Way into Summer

If you’re not ready to take the plunge into Weight Management at The Group or feel like you just need a little extra motivation to move, we can help!

Allison Elfline, Personal Trainer at The Group, has great advice to get you moving more, no matter your fitness level! 

“There are many activities you can do to get moving,” Elfline said.  “A few simple ideas are parking farther from the door in a parking lot, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, house-walking or going up and down the stairs in between commercials while watching TV, and doing some squats or calf raises while loading/unloading the dishwasher or washing the dishes.”

If you’re already a regular gym-goer but lack direction for your workouts, Elfline suggested going hard for 30 minutes.

“It’s all about maximizing the time you have,” she said. “Circuit workouts are perfect because you can get in a few sets of intense strength training without spending a ton of time in the gym.”

She also suggested interval training (run/walking on the treadmill or a HIIT workout) as another way to get in a good sweat session when you don't have a lot of time.

Summer is the perfect time to experiment with new activities to help you get some great exercise while having fun.

“Give swimming a try,” Elfline said. “Water exercise is a perfect low-impact yet high intensity workout to help you tone up and stay cool.” 

Any way to exercise and spend time with family is a win-win situation! Simply adding a family walk or bike ride to your after-dinner routine will help you stay active without compromising time with your loved ones. The summer months might be busy, but Elfline wants you to stay encouraged.

“I, myself, am a busy mom,” she said. “I work as a personal trainer, coach runners twice a week, AND have a 3-year-old daughter, so I understand how difficult it is to fit in a workout! However, there are still great ways to have your kids with you and stay active.”
