Nine Months of Milestones

Your pregnancy journey is full of extraordinary changes, miraculous discoveries, and a lot of emotions!

At The Group, we are here to help you every step of the way. Dr. Jen Steines, M.D., wants you to know you are never alone!

“I really enjoy helping not only the patient but the partner too,” Steines explained. “I try to provide a sense of safety and security for their baby and I really enjoy preparing them to become a new family.”

Whether you’ve just taken a pregnancy test, are 16 weeks along, or 27 weeks along, Dr. Steines wants you to know about some of the amazing milestones you’ll experience!

Some important, and surprising, changes take place during your first trimester!
“First, you just have to get used to the idea of being pregnant and the physical changes (good and bad) that come along with that,” Steines said. “One of the most exciting milestones you’ll encounter in your first trimester is seeing the heartbeat of your growing little one!”

Your second trimester is typically the time when your baby bump will be noticeable!
“This is the time when you can find out the gender of your baby – if you want,” she explained. “Be prepared for your baby to start moving, too.”

The third trimester is full of milestones for you and your baby. “Usually the reality of having a baby and growing your family sinks in around the third trimester,” Steines explained. “You will have a glucose screening at 26-28 weeks and you may start to feel some contractions. We may perform more exams and testing if there are any additional medical conditions we need to consider.”

You may also experience new discomfort when you enter your third trimester. “During your last weeks of pregnancy you may have new, or increased, back pain, pelvic pain, shortness of breath, or difficulty sleeping,” she said.

It’s at that time you need to focus on the delivery and meeting the newest member of your family.

“That’s the most exciting part of the pregnancy for me,” Steines said. “I love seeing the look on the parents’ faces when they hold their baby for the first time. Experiencing all the ‘firsts’ with the parents is just so rewarding.”
